ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a telephonic conversation with Secretary-General Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Vladimir Norov (today) Monday.
According to a press release issued by the Foreign Ministry, both the personalities exchanged views on adopting an effective strategy to contain the outbreak of coronavirus.
In this regard, FM Qureshi briefed the SCO Secretary-General about the measures taken by Pakistan. He emphasized evolving a common approach from the SCO platform to prevent the spread of the virus.
Commenting on China’s support to Pakistan, FM Qureshi said that China was providing valuable support to Pakistan in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.
Referring to SAARC video conference, FM Qureshi said that Pakistan was looking forward to a video conference of the health ministers of the South Asian Association of Regional Countries (SAARC) in order to get benefit from the experiences of one another.
FM Qureshi also highlighted Prime Minister Imran Khan’s call for debt relief and restricting loans to support developing countries. He expressed the hope that SCO will play an effective role in forwarding Pakistan’s proposal of restructuring loans.
The SCO Secretary-General appreciated Prime Minister Imran Khan’s proposal of restructuring loans of developing economies and said that financial support for developing countries was the need of the hour. He also assured that SCO will take all possible measures to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.
