KARACHI: The confirmed cases of coronavirus in Pakistan have surged past 3,127 after new cases were reported in several areas across the country on Sunday.
According to government data till Sunday evening, the number of coronavirus cases in Pakistan rose to 3,127, after more 128 new cases were reported during past 24 hours.
According to the National Command and Control Centre, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 45, while at least 171 patients have fully recovered.
Punjab has become the worst-hit province in the country with 1, 380 cases (12 deaths) followed by Sindh, 881 (15 deaths); Kyber Pakhtunkhwa, 374 (14 deaths); Gilgit Baltistan, 210 (3 deaths); Balochistan 192 (1 death); Islamabad 78 and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, 12 (1 death).
The worldwide number of officially confirmed fatalities from the novel COVID-19 now stands at above 65,000.
More than 1 million declared cases have been reported in 200 countries and territories since the coronavirus first emerged in China’s Wuhan city in 2019. Of these cases, at least 250,000 are now considered recovered.
The US has the world’s highest number of confirmed cases of COVID-19. More than 306,000 people have tested positive in the country and over 8,400 have died.
White House medical experts have forecast that between 100,000 to 240,000 Americans could be killed in the pandemic.
