LAHORE: The concerned authorities have declared Raiwind as a quarantine centre after a sudden spike in coronavirus cases in town today (Tuesday).
According to details, Punjab police have put the town under quarantine and shut down all general and medical stores, while no one is being allowed to leave their homes.
A police spokesperson said that even now more than 2,200 people of the tableeghi jamaat are present in the gathering.
The spokesperson further informed that police and personnel of law enforcement agencies were patrolling in the area to ensure the lockdown.
Adjacent to Raiwind city is a tableeghi mosque where it was suspected that 50 people have contracted the virus. Upon screening, it was discovered that 27 do have the virus.
Meanwhile, Inspector-General Sindh Police Mushtaq Mahar has directed the Sindh Police to quarantine tableeghi jamaat members wherever they find them in Karachi.
Mahar further directed the officials to trace tableeghi jamaat members across the city in various districts and quarantine them wherever they were found.
Coronavirus has claimed lives of almost 26 people across the country and has affected more than 1850 people. Sindh and Punjab remained the most affected provinces of the country.
