Australian cricketer and number one ICC ranked test batsman Steve Smith’s two-year leadership ban has ended today (Sunday), leaving him eligible to captain his side again.
Steve Smith after the ball-tampering scandal was suspended for 12 months and was banned from leading Australia for two-years as it all happened under his leadership.
Co-conspirator David Warner was banned from any leadership role for life, although both have resumed their international careers successfully.
Currently, 35-year-old Tim Paine is leading the Australian Side in test format and Aaron Finch is the skipper of the limited-overs format of the kangaroos. While speculations are emerging that Smith is pushed to take back the captaincy.
However, head coach Justin Langer has lauded Paine’s leadership last year and said Smith might not want to take extra burden of captaincy on top of batting pressures.
It must be noted that most of the Australian players were preparing to play the Indian Premier League (IPL) but it got postponed due to coronavirus pandemic.
