International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced today (Thursday) that all qualifying events for the T20 World Cup 2021 and 50-overs version in 2023 that were scheduled to be held before June 30 have been postponed due to the outbreak of coronavirus.
In a press release issued by ICC, the decision has been taken in conjunction with Members and in line with the relevant government and public health authority advice.
The press release further stated that ICC had taken decision after carefully evaluating the current situation and with the health and well-being of the global cricket family.
In this regard, Chris Tetley, ICC head of events said, “In light of the significant global health concerns at the current time and the restrictions on movement imposed by governments across the world, the ICC has taken the decision to postpone all events up until the end of June subject to further review.
He further said, “Our commitment to the health and safety of players, officials, staff and fans is our priority when making these decisions and we must act responsibly in the best interests of all involved and be guided by official advice.”
Globally, coronavirus has claimed lives of more than 22,000 people and has affected 487,452 people so far. Unfortunately, no vaccine has been created till yet.
