ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has passed a report of banning sugar exports.
A report was passed to overcome the shortfall of the sugar in the country. After this decision, the export of 350,000 tons of sugar will be stopped.
Sugar is a basic ingredient of the country, the sugar price witnessed 10 rupees per kilogram hike in a week recently. The rate of the commodity rose from Rs64 to Rs74 per KG and an acute shortage of the commodity surfaced across Pakistan.
Moreover, the Lahore High Court also extended the hearing of wheat and sugar stocks in Punjab till 13th February.
A petition was filed in the LHC in which the petitioner stated that the wheat flour and sugar were available in quantity more. it was due to the mafia that created an artificial crisis.
The petition further stated that the feed mills have purchased wheat instead of the expensive corn.
According to the petition, around 2,50,000 tons of stocks have been purchased by the feed mills, while 4,00,000 tons of wheat have been exported.
The petitioner pleaded to the court to impose a ban over the export of the wheat and crackdown against the mafia involved in the wheat and sugar shortage.
