LAHORE: Provincial Minister of Health Dr. Yasmin Rashid on Tuesday announced that Punjab is set to establish a state-of-the-art blood disease and bone marrow transplantation medical facilities.
The decision to set up the Punjab Institute of Blood Diseases and Bone Marrow Transplant was introduced on the orders of Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, with the formal announcement made at the Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Department’s meeting chaired by Dr. Rashid with the Punjab health department authorities.

The meeting was also attended by the department’s secretary, special secretary, and additional secretary, Barrister Nabeel Awan, Silwat Saeed, and Nadir Chattha, respectively, as well as Professor Dr. Tahir Shamsi, a renowned bone marrow transplant expert and the head of the National Institute of Blood Disease & Bone Marrow Transplantation (NIBD) and other senior staff.
Dr. Yasmeen Rashid said, “This would be a 200-bed institute with top-quality diagnostic and treatment centers for blood diseases and bone marrow transplants, this institute will provide specialized treatment for hereditary diseases, thalassemia, hemophilia ITP, and other autoimmune conditions and diseases.”

In addition to transplants, the institute would also work on the element of prevention related to hereditary diseases. The specialists and staff of the Institute would be instructed in advanced lines.
