ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has warned of the second wave of the coronavirus in the country as the preventive measures are being ignored.
“Pakistan is currently at risk of a second wave of coronavirus infections,” the association said in a statement issued in this regard today (Friday).
The Medical Association warned that countries that are currently experiencing a second wave were facing a more severe form of the disease. It expressed concerns over the possibility of a similar situation in Pakistan.
“The main reason behind the escalating coronavirus infections in the country is the lack in the strict observance of coronavirus safety measures,” the association added.
Commenting on the situation of Sindh, whereas many as half of the country’s cases were recently registered, it said that people had stopped exercising caution.
“It is important that special care is taken in primary and pre-primary schools,” said PMA. The association reiterated that the virus has not yet been eliminated and urged the citizens to follow the precautions.
The announcement comes days after the government started the phase-wise reopening of schools, which concluded with the resumption of primary schools from September 30.
Earlier today (Friday), the two weeks long micro-smart lockdown was declared in District Korangi wherein specific Union Councils, where the number of cases exceeded expectations, will experience lockdown starting today.
