KARACHI: Dirty water coming out from choked sewerage lines remains stagnant on various major roads and streets, including Liaquatabad market, which pays the highest tax, causing hindrance to the traders and customers.
According to details, such filthy sights could be seen in Korangi, Landhi, Shah Faisal Colony, Malir, Liaquatabad, Lyari, Federal B Area, New Karachi, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Nazimabad, and Old City Area.
Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) has failed to take any measures to clear the choked sewerage line despite several applications filed by the residents of the affected areas.
Meanwhile, the residents of Korangi 50A have staged a protest against the stagnant dirty waters coming out from choked sewerage lines. The protesters, carrying placards and chanting slogans, demanded that the sewerage system in the area be improved.
“We don’t get enough clean water or drinking water to fulfill our needs but as for gutter water, well, we are literally floating in it,” complains a resident. Sewage water, on one hand, was causing damage to roads, and on the other, was polluting the environment of affected localities.
A trader in Liaquatabad market said, “We have cars pulling up in front of our shops for services but they can’t do that in gutter water so our businesses too are affected.”
