KARACHI: The Hub river bridge on N-25 Highway which connects Karachi to Hub in Balochistan has been in a dangerous condition, posing threat to the public after it faced further damage in the recent torrential rains.
According to details, almost three pillars of the bridge suffered high damage due to the rains, after which the bridge has become dangerous for the transportation of goods and other heavy traffic flow.
The N-25, also called RCD Highway, connects Karachi and Balochistan with a number of cities across Pakistan. Meanwhile, the district administration has issued orders that limited traffic be allowed on the bridge for now.
In this regard, the Balochistan government spokesperson Liaquat Shahwani said that the National Highway Authority (NHA) was responsible for the bridge’s construction and it’s thus equally responsible for its repair.
“Two letters have been sent to the NHA about the dilapidated condition of the bridge. They have responded that there was no threat to the bridge,” Shahwani claimed.
In clarification, the Highway Authority has informed that the structure of Hub Bridge has been stable, adding that they had conducted jacketing around the pillars in the Year 2017-18.
“Asphalt work to enhance the age of the structure also conducted by the NHA. The breach showed in the video caused by the enhanced water flow from the Hub Dam spillway,” NHA added.
