ISLAMABAD: The closure of Metro Bus service in twin cities of Pakistan for four months has worsened the traffic problems on major highways.
According to details, traffic jams have also become common on other link roads. An official of the City Traffic Police said that the closure of Metro Bus service has caused more traffic problems on Murree Road, Mall Road, Rawal Road, Saidpur Road, IJP Road and Double Road.
The traffic police officer further said that at least 13,000 passengers used to travel daily by using the Metro bus to get to different places between Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
“Due to the closure of the metro bus service, an increased number of vehicles are entering the city’s main commercial area creating traffic jams daily,” the officer added.
The officer also said that due to severe traffic pressure, Liaquat Bagh Road, Sixth Road, Chandni Chowk, Asghar Mall Road, Committee Chowk, Iqbal Road, traffic jams have become commonplace during the five working days.
Earlier, the city administration grounded the metro bus service along with other public transport vehicles between the twin cities as part of the precautionary measures to contain the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
