ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan today (Friday) has inaugurated the Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign 2020 in Kahuta district Rawalpindi.
According to details, the premier was accompanied by his Adviser on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam and State Minister for Climate Change Zartaj Gul.
Addressing the ceremony, the Prime Minister informed that enhancing the green areas was vital to protect the future generation from pollution and global warming.
Highlighting the steps PTI government has taken in this regard, PM Imran said that The PTI-led federal government had established nine National Parks, which will nurture wildlife and will also protect forest cover.”
He further said that the government had also launched the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami campaign. “Under this campaign, we have grown 30 million trees in just two years,” he added.
The Prime Minister also said that three hundred ‘Nigehbans’ have been appointed to protect trees in these parks. “Main responsibility of the workers will be to protect trees from fire, animals, and timber mafia,” he remarked.
PM Imran announced that the government has decided to reserve two hours a week to create awareness about the importance of trees among schoolchildren.
“It is unfortunate that previous governments failed in preventing deforestation, which resulted in an increased in pollution in major cities of the country,” he added.
