ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Monday held a telephonic conversation with his Irish counterpart along with the Vice President of Ireland and discussed coronavirus epidemic situation.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, during the conversation Foreign Minister Qureshi lauded effective steps being taken by the Irish government to limit the spread of the COVID-19.
He briefed the Irish officials about the latest epidemic situation in Pakistan as well as the measures being taken by the government to control the novel COVID-19.
“While underscoring the importance of PM Imran Khan’s call for Global Initiative for debt for developing countries, FM reiterated the need for close cooperation to minimize the impact of the economic slowdown and devote more resources to manage the crisis,” the statement read.
Irish Vice President hailed the debt relief initiative and ensured full support on the matter at global forums to Pakistan.
FM Qureshi expressed concerns over the spread of coronavirus in the Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir due to continued restrictions on movement and lack of unfettered access to medical and other essential supplies.
He also noted the campaign to demonize Indian Muslims in the context of COVID-19 spread, emphasizing that “it should be rejected by the international community”.
He also highlighted Indian attempts to change the demography of Jammu Kashmir and the ongoing 300 plus day curfew.
Irish foreign minister said that the country’s stance against human rights violations has been very strict since the beginning.
He also informed that the country was keeping a close eye on the developments taking place in the region with regards to Kashmir.
