Sindh govt orders unhindered transportation of wheat to major cities

KARACHI: Sindh government today (Monday) has ordered unhindered transportation of wheat to Karachi and Hyderabad in view of a recently emerged shortage in flour mills.
According to a notice issued by the Sindh Food Department, “No vehicle carrying wheat of Flour Mills of Karachi and Hyderabad shall be intercepted by the officials of the Food Department.”

In this regard, Adviser to Prime Minister on Maritime Affairs, Mahmood Moulvi tweeted, “Sindh Food Department while endorsing my stance has opened “Zila Bandi” of wheat for Karachi.”
However, he said, “Some elements are trying to obstruct the arrival of wheat. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah should issue instructions for unhindered transportation so that prices can be reduced & common man can get relief.”

But, some elements are trying to obstruct the arrival of wheat. CM Sindh should issue instructions for unhindered transportation so that prices can be reduced & common man can get relief

Earlier on Sunday, Adviser to Prime Minister on Maritime Affairs, Mahmood Moulvi criticized the Sindh government for the rising prices of wheat in major cities.
In a press conference, he said that the provincial government was responsible for supplying wheat to the flour mills and others associated with this business.
He also said the provincial government’s incompetence had triggered the crisis and demanded strict action against those responsible.
Regretting that PPP leaders were making uproar over ‘injustice’ with the province, he said the injustice was done by those who had looted the government funds and minted money during wheat procurement and its distribution.
The PTI leader said corruption mafia in Sindh had sold several millions of tonnes of wheat to its favourites on credit, and made no recovery from them.
Mahmood Moulvi further said controlling the rate of wheat flour was also the responsibility of the Sindh government. He said wheat flour was given to Sindh at the rate of Rs 40 per kg, but it was being sold at Rs 50 per kg across the province.
