LONDON (AFP): Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II will not celebrate her 94th birthday on Tuesday (April 21) in any special way due to coronavirus pandemic.
In this regard, Buckingham Palace has informed that there would be none of Britain’s traditional gun salutes to mark the occasion because it would not be appropriate while the country battles coronavirus outbreak.
According to an international news agency, it is believed to be the first such request in the Queen’s 68-year reign.
Earlier this month, the queen made a rare national address at Easter, and said, “We know that coronavirus will not overcome us and we will meet again after the country’s lockdown is lifted.”
Britain is in its fourth week of a national lockdown, with businesses forced to close and citizens ordered to stay at home. So far, coronavirus has claimed lives of more than 15,000 across the United Kingdom and has affected more than 114,000 people.
