KARACHI: The confirmed cases of coronavirus in Pakistan have surged past 7,900 after new cases emerged in several areas across the country.
According to the national dashboard, the number of coronavirus cases has reached 7,918 and almost 148 people died. So far, 1,832 people have recovered from coronavirus across the country.
Punjab remains the worst affected province from coronavirus with more than 3,640 infections. In this regard, provincial Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has informed that 145 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Punjab, taking the provincial total to 3,649.
Sindh government reported 138 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus in the province taking the total number of patients in the province to 2,355.
Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab in a statement said that the provincial government has conducted 1666 tests of coronavirus in the past 24 hours.
“In the last 24 hours, 11 people have recovered from COVID-19 in Sindh,” he further said. The province has overall conducted 22,938 tests with 2,355 positive cases.
According to the spokesperson, the death toll by COVIDー19 in Sindh has reached 48, while 592 patients have recovered from the disease.
Balochistan government’s spokesman Liaquat Shahwani said that during the past 24 hours, 41 people have tested positive for the virus.
He maintained that the province has currently 229 locally transmitted virus cases. “Overall five people have been killed from the virus while 142 recovered from it,” the spokesperson added.
Islamabad deputy commissioner, Hamza Shafaat has informed that a 72-year-old doctor succumbed to the coronavirus illness in the federal capital. He also informed that this is the second death from the contagion in the capital.
