The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has revealed that it made three separate attempts over the last three and a half years to have former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s X (formerly Twitter) account suspended but received no response from the social media giant.
According to a report submitted to the Islamabad High Court (IHC), the PTA reached out to X management multiple times to seek the closure of the PTI founder’s account, citing various complaints. However, the authority informed the court that the platform has remained indifferent to these requests.
During the proceedings, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir expressed dissatisfaction with the PTA’s response, terming it “unsatisfactory” and noting that it failed to adequately address the specific legal points raised in the petition.
The court is currently hearing a plea filed by a citizen who alleges that “inflammatory and provocative” posts are being shared from the former premier’s official account while he remains incarcerated.
While jail authorities have clarified that Imran Khan has no access to digital devices or the internet within the prison, the government continues to investigate who is operating the account from outside.
The case has been adjourned until February 24, with the court stressing that legal proceedings cannot effectively move forward until the PTI founder’s counsel is granted access to him for consultation
