Karachi police have initiated a citywide crackdown targeting heavy vehicles operating without GPS trackers, as well as vehicles with fake, unauthorized, or missing number plates. The decision, taken at a high-level meeting, aims to curb violations related to e-challan evasion and enhance road security.
Under the operation, strict actions will be taken against vehicles found running without proper number plates or GPS trackers. Owners of such vehicles will face severe penalties, including a hefty fine of one lakh rupees for failing to install trackers in heavy vehicles.
This joint crackdown involves the traffic police, excise department, and the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), focusing on major city roads, highways, and commercial hubs. Special checkpoints and roadblocks have been established to ensure compliance.
Vehicles with fake, tampered, or “fancy” license plates, as well as those using unauthorized official-looking green plates, will also be targeted. Violators risk immediate vehicle impoundment, fines, and registration of criminal cases.
Motorists are advised to carry valid official registration plates or, if awaiting new plates, the official receipt from the Excise Department, to avoid penalties.
This enforcement drive aims to strengthen the effectiveness of the e-challan system, which has recorded over 100,000 violations, and to prevent misuse of fake plates for illegal activities across the city.
