Karachi: Princess Zahra Aga Khan was formally installed as the first Pro-Chancellor of the Aga Khan University (AKU) on Saturday, during the university’s 38th convocation, which saw 461 students graduate from 18 different degree programmes.
As Pro-Chancellor, Princess Zahra will support AKU in its mission to improve the quality of life across Pakistan. She highlighted the university’s growing presence in cities and rural areas, noting that AKU’s healthcare professionals, educators, and researchers are increasingly becoming an integral part of communities from Karachi to Gilgit.
In his message, AKU’s Chancellor, His Highness the Aga Khan, praised the graduates, emphasizing their responsibility and opportunity to use knowledge to positively impact human life.
This year also marked the graduation of the first class from the Institute for Educational Development’s Bachelor of Education programme, designed to prepare teachers for diverse learning environments.
Nearly 70% of the graduating class were women, reflecting the university’s efforts to reduce the gender gap in education in a country where millions of girls remain out of school.
Valedictorian Muhammad Taha Nasim thanked the faculty for encouraging graduates to pursue excellence while emphasizing empathy.
