Google has rolled out an important update for users with Google IDs who use Gmail.
Under the new feature, Google account holders can now change their primary ‘@gmail.com’ email address linked to an existing account.
The key advantage of this update is that even after changing the account’s primary email address, all user data remains fully intact. In other words, personal data stays secure, as the tech giant has begun a phased rollout of this feature.
This means that when a user switches to a new Gmail ID, all stored data — including photos, messages and emails — will remain completely unaffected.
In addition, users will be able to sign in to Google services such as Gmail, Maps, YouTube and Drive using either their old or new email address.
According to Google, once a new Gmail address has been created, users will not be able to generate another new address for the next 12 months, although the old email address can be reused at any time.
Despite assurances regarding data security, Google has advised users to back up their information before starting the process, as some app settings may be reset during the transition.
Google further stated that users who wish to check whether this feature is available to them can do so by visiting the ‘Personal Information’ section within their account settings.
