Prof. Dr. Zahida Baqai, the visionary founder of Baqai Medical University (BMU), passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025.
A pioneer in Pakistan’s private medical education sector, she is remembered for her lifelong dedication to ethical healthcare, institution-building, and inspiring generations of medical professionals.
Dr. Baqai was a visionary educationist who founded one of Pakistan’s most respected private medical institutions.
She was a pioneer for women in higher education leadership and an advocate for ethical healthcare, believing education is a service and healthcare a moral responsibility.
Along with her husband, Prof. Dr. Fareeduddin Baqai, she co-founded the Baqai Foundation in the 1970s, which led to the creation of a medical complex and Baqai Medical University. Prof. Dr. Fareeduddin Baqai passed away in 2017.
