The instant messaging application WhatsApp is developing a powerful new feature to block messages from unknown numbers, which is expected to be rolled out soon.
According to the website that tracks WhatsApp updates, the platform’s developers are working on a feature that will prevent messages from unknown contacts from appearing directly in chats.
As per reports, messages from unknown numbers will no longer appear instantly as text messages.
Instead, they will appear in the form of message requests, similar to Instagram’s inbox system, where messages from unknown senders appear as requests.
Currently, WhatsApp already sends group invite requests when an unknown number tries to add a user to a group. The upcoming feature will function in the same way — displaying new messages as requests that users can choose to accept or ignore.
Users will also need to enable the feature manually through privacy settings before it starts working.
The feature is currently under development, and testing is expected to begin soon, followed by a wider public release.
