World Mental Health Day is being observed today across the globe, including in Pakistan, with the aim of raising awareness about mental health issues worldwide, as reported by national media on Friday.
According to details, the purpose of observing World Mental Health Day is to promote efforts to address mental health issues. The theme for 2025 is: “Access to Mental Health Services in Disasters and Emergencies.” This theme highlights the importance of mental health care during natural disasters, conflicts, or other emergency situations.
Globally, numerous challenges such as the Russia-Ukraine war and the Gaza-Israel conflict continue to affect humanity, potentially leading to widespread mental health issues that cause people to experience severe stress, trauma, or anxiety.
Around one billion people worldwide are affected by some form of mental disorder, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), but access to treatment remains limited—especially in low-income countries where public access is even more restricted.
However, mental health problems worsen during natural disasters, as the destruction of basic infrastructure and economic pressures have negative impacts on psychological well-being.
On this occasion, events, workshops, and awareness campaigns are being organized globally to educate people about the importance of mental health and access to treatment facilities.
