Since its introduction, artificial intelligence has fueled a highly competitive race, driving platforms to release a constant stream of new features and groundbreaking applications.
Now according to news reports in technology world ChatGPT chatbot developed by OpenAI Company is releasing a stand-alone social app for making and sharing artificial intelligence-generated videos with friends, called Sora app.
The free Sora app, available from Tuesday by invitation, is powered by a new version of OpenAI’s video-making software of the same name.
As with the original Sora, released in December, users can generate short clips in response to text prompts, but the new app allows people to see videos created by others.
Users can create a realistic-looking AI avatar and voice of themselves, which can be inserted into videos made with the app by the user or their friends, with the avatar owner’s permission.
With the new app, OpenAI is also taking its biggest step yet towards building a social media product. The move puts it in closer competition with services from TikTok and Meta Platforms, which recently introduced an AI video feed called Vibes.
In the process, OpenAI may open the door to new revenue streams from advertising and also boost visibility for its tech.
Despite its success with ChatGPT, now used by more than 700 million people weekly, OpenAI has yet to turn Sora into a household name.
