Mills case: Maryam exempted from appearing before court

ISLAMABAD: The accountability court has granted an exemption to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz from appearing before the court in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case.

Maryam Nawaz and her father Nawaz Sharif were given an exemption on the court orders today and adjourned the hearing till 6th December.
Nawaz Sharif has been granted an exemption for four weeks whereas his Maryam has been granted an exemption from court appearances until the reference in the case is filed.

The court, during the hearing, Judge Ameer Muhammad Khan probed the investigation officer when the reference against the PML-N leaders will be filed. To this, the officer replied that the investigation is ongoing and the reference will be filed once they are complete.
Following this, Maryam’s counsel Amjad Pervaiz filed an application to the court to exempt her from appearing before the court until the reference is filed.

PML-N vice president Maryam, who appeared in court today, submitted an application to be given exemption from court appearances until the filing of the reference. Another application was submitted seeking an exemption for Nawaz’s attendance in the proceedings.
The court approved both applications also seeking former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s exemption from appearing before the court.
Maryam was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in August in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case.
According to the NAB, transactions worth millions of rupees were made under Chaudhry and Shamim mills.

NAB has also claimed that three foreigners had transferred 11000 shares worth millions of rupees on Maryam Nawaz’s name.
Rs7 million worth of shares were transferred to Maryam Nawaz in 2008 through mill’s shares, which were later transferred to Yousaf Abbas Sharif in 2010.
