ISLAMABAD: Former foreign minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said the PLM-N led coalition government is trying to divert attention from audio leaks with missing Cypher claims.

“The federal government is responsible for releasing Imran Khan audio clips,” Shah Mahmood Qureshi claimed during an interview with a private TV channel “The administration wants to divert attention from its audio leaks and the Prime Minister’s Office’s (PMO) security breakdown.”

The vice-chairman of PTI expressed concern over the disappearance of confidential documents from the PMO. If the sensitive document—a diplomatic cable or cypher—went missing from PMO, there has been a serious security breach.

He added that Imran Khan has not been bothered by the audio leaks. “We love Pakistan, and there is nothing to be concerned about. When it comes to the interests of the country, it is our responsibility to defend our motherland.

Officials informed the federal cabinet members on Friday that the diplomatic cable was “taken” from the Pakistan Prime Minister’s Office and that a copy had vanished from the PMO’s files.

Today’s federal cabinet meeting, presided over by PM Shehbaz Sharif, was briefed on the revelations. The former prime minister, former principal secretary, and former ministers will face legal action, the federal cabinet has agreed.

Moreover, PTI leader Chaudhary Fawad Hussain on Friday insisted that the purpose of Imran’s audio leaks was to divert attention from the acquittal of Maryam Nawaz in the Avenfield case. He also claimed the PTI government took precautions of not to naming the country initially, but it became inevitable after cabinet allowed the cable to be declassified

On his twitter, Fawad said they took precautions of not naming the country mentioned in the diplomatic cable initially, but it became inevitable after the cabinet allowed to declassify it.

He wrote on his Twitter: “We took whatever caution was possible in diplomatic matters.

The name of the country [US] was not revealed until the cabinet declassified the cipher. The name, however, had to come to light when the cipher had been declassified.”
