At least eight people have died, including two drug addicts, and several others have been hospitalized amid intense heatwave-like conditions in the city, rescue officials said on Monday.
According to details, rescue sources confirmed that at least two people died of heatstroke.
A man aged around 40–42 years was found in critical condition near Jamali Bridge, close to a Shell petrol pump in the Al-Asif area.
He was shifted to hospital but succumbed during treatment. Initial reports suggest the cause of death was heatstroke.
An unidentified body was discovered near Boat Basin in the Supermarket area. Another body was recovered from beneath Liaquatabad Bridge. The body of a 50-year-old labourer, Dur Muhammad, was found in Surjani Town. Another unidentified body was recovered from Defence Phase 8, Khayaban-e-Saif. A body identified as Abdul Wadood, aged 55, was found near Baldia, Suparco Road. Another drug addict’s body was recovered from Manghopir.
In a separate incident, two unidentified men, estimated to be between 35 and 40 years old, were found unconscious by the roadside near Coconut Point at Jheel Park.
Both individuals were transported to Jinnah Hospital via Edhi ambulance services for urgent medical attention.
The incidents come as Pakistan Meteorological Department reported severe heatwave-like conditions across Karachi. The maximum temperature reached 41°C, with the “feels like” temperature climbing to 43°C due to prevailing weather conditions.
The city is currently experiencing extremely hot and dry weather, with humidity levels dropping to as low as 8%. Hot north-westerly winds, blowing at speeds of up to 11 km/h, have further intensified the harsh conditions.
