KARACHI: Law enforcement agencies on Saturday claimed to have averted a potential disaster in the metropolis after recovering a large consignment of illegal weapons during separate operations, officials said.
According to police and Rangers officials, raids were conducted in different parts of the city, resulting in the seizure of a significant quantity of arms and ammunition. Two suspects were also arrested during the operations.
Officials said the recovered cache comprised various types of weapons, which were allegedly being smuggled into the city for use in criminal activities. They added that the timely operations helped foil a possible major incident.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the arrested suspects are part of a network involved in transporting illegal weapons into Karachi. Authorities said further interrogation was under way to trace the broader network and identify other individuals involved in the smuggling operation.
Law enforcement agencies reiterated their resolve to continue targeted operations against criminal elements to maintain law and order in the city.
