The Foreign Office has stated that there is no temporary ceasefire in place with Afghanistan.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, there was only a three-day pause during Eid, which has now ended, and it is not accurate to describe the current situation as a ceasefire.
The spokesperson further said that the United Kingdom’s position on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border does not fully reflect the ground realities.
Cross-border terrorism and infiltration attempts from Afghanistan have continued uninterrupted, and attacks from across the border persisted even after Pakistan’s ceasefire initiative in March.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, security forces thwarted two infiltration attempts along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and killed 13 militants.
The spokesperson added that 52 civilians were martyred and 84 injured due to unprovoked cross-border firing and terrorist activities by Afghan Taliban. Allegations from Afghanistan regarding civilian casualties were termed baseless and unverified.
According to the Foreign Office, Pakistan has foiled multiple infiltration attempts from Afghanistan, and ignoring the root causes of terrorism reflects an unbalanced stance.
The international community has been urged to recognise the regional situation and Pakistan’s sacrifices.
