Interpol has issued Red Notices for property tycoon Malik Riaz Hussain and his son Ali Riaz Malik, marking a major development in ongoing accountability proceedings in Pakistan.
The notices were issued on the request of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), officials said during a media briefing, where details of large-scale investigations, recoveries, and pending cases were also shared.
Addressing a media briefing, the Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lieutenant General (retd) Nazir Ahmed Butt, said that the Red Notices were issued at NAB’s request through Interpol.
NAB Director General Operations Amjad Majeed Aulakh said that investigations worth over Rs900 billion against Malik Riaz have been completed.
He added that NAB recovered Rs89 billion during the previous year, while 37 high-profile money laundering cases are currently under investigation.
According to officials, four money laundering cases have already been closed by the courts, while 289 references, 205 investigations, and 745 inquiries are currently active. Between January and March this year, NAB received 8,563 complaints, out of which 8,214 have been disposed of, while 475 are still under process.
