QUETTA: At least four people have died after lightning struck multiple locations in Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest province by area, plunging affected regions into chaos, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the deadly strikes occurred in Musakhel, Nasirabad, and Jafarabad districts. Local administrations are closely monitoring the situation as rescue and relief efforts remain underway.
Recurring Tragedy: Lightning Strikes Devastate Livestock and Livelihoods
It may be mentioned here that this is not the first time Balochistan has been hit by such natural disasters. Earlier this month, a devastating lightning strike in Musakhel district killed 65 sheep, leaving a local herdsman in financial ruin.
In an emotional account, the affected herder recalled the April incident, stating, “Lightning destroyed everything for me—it was my entire universe.” The loss, estimated in millions of rupees, has compounded the hardships faced by rural communities already grappling with economic instability.
Meanwhile, with lightning strikes becoming a recurring hazard in the region, experts and locals have called for improved early warning systems and public awareness campaigns to mitigate risks. The PDMA has yet to issue a formal statement on preventive measures, but district officials have assured affected families of support.
As monsoon season approaches, concerns grow over the potential for further lightning-related casualties in Balochistan’s vast and often remote landscapes.
