QUETTA: Armed men attacked a mining site operated by National Resources (Private) Limited (NRL) in Darigwan, Chagai district, on Thursday, targeting an active drilling operation, company and local officials said.
NRL said in an online statement that security forces, including the Frontier Corps, “responded promptly and secured the area.” A clearance and sweep operation is under way to ensure the safety of personnel and assets, the company added, and said it is coordinating with law enforcement and will provide updates as more information emerges.
Local sources reported that some machinery at the site was set on fire during the assault. The local administration has confirmed the incident but gave no further details; authorities said they are probing the attack and that additional information will be released when available.
Darigwan lies about 100 km northwest of Dalbandin in a remote, mountainous part of Chagai. The incident comes within hours before security forces operating near the M‑40 in Dalbandin foilied an attempted blockade by a group calling itself “Fitna Al‑Hindustan,” in which seven militants were killed and three soldiers martyred in a fierce exchange of fire.
Security agencies have since intensified patrols and clearance operations across the region to secure transit routes and commercial installations.
Search-and-sweep teams remain on site in Darigwan; officials urged residents to avoid the area while operations continue.
