Afghanistan’s star leg-spinner Rashid Khan has revealed that he was offered citizenship and the chance to represent both India and Australia in international cricket, but he rejected both offers.
According to reports, Rashid shared this surprising revelation in his autobiography “Rashid Khan: From Streets to Stardom.”
He explained that during the 2023 IPL season, while he was in India, a team official arranged a meeting with senior Indian cricket authorities.
Rashid said, “They told me that the situation in Afghanistan is not good and suggested that I move to India. They offered to provide me with all the necessary documents and asked me to play for their country.”
The Afghan spinner admitted he was taken aback by the proposal but responded politely, saying, “Thank you very much, but I will play for my country, Afghanistan.”
He further revealed that he had received a similar offer from Australia as well. However, he made it clear that his views remained unchanged.
“If I don’t play for Afghanistan, then I won’t play cricket at all,” Rashid said.
