Electricity consumers may face another increase of 26 paisa per unit as the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) under the March fuel cost adjustment.
NEPRA will hold a hearing on the CPPA’s request on April 28.
According to CPPA, a total of 8.939 billion units of electricity were generated during March, while 8.644 billion units were supplied to distribution companies. The reference cost for March was set at Rs. 7.99 per unit.
Data shows that electricity generation came from multiple sources, including 23.55% from hydropower, 16.76% from local coal, 13.80% from imported coal, and 5.64% from imported LNG.
Similarly, 1.02% of electricity was generated from furnace oil and 11.34% from local gas, while nuclear energy contributed 21.95% in March. Additionally, wind accounted for 3.46% and solar for 1.18% of total generation.
According to the application, the proposed increase will also apply to K-Electric, potentially adding to the financial burden of consumers already affected by inflation.
