In a candid interview with Indian media, acclaimed director Imtiaz Ali has firmly ruled out any plans for a sequel to his 2015 romantic drama Tamasha, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. He also dismissed rumors of a Jab We Met 2, calling both films “complete stories that don’t need continuation.”
Ali reflected on his 2020 film Love Aaj Kal 2, which received lukewarm reviews, calling it a “lesson” on why sequels shouldn’t be made just for commercial gain. “Some things are best left untouched,” he said, emphasizing that he’d only revisit a story if a “compelling, organic idea” emerges — not to chase box office numbers.
Fans of Tamasha — known for its layered narrative on identity, love, and self-discovery — may be disappointed, but Ali’s stance reinforces his reputation as a filmmaker who values emotional authenticity over franchise mechanics. As of now, no studio or cast member has hinted at any revival, and Ali remains focused on new original projects.
