ISLAMABAD: At least three Pakistani nationals were among those injured after falling fragments from an intercepted projectile sparked a fire at the United Arab Emirates’ Khor Fakkan port, prompting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to express “deep concern” over the escalating regional tension.
According to reports from the Sharjah Government Media Bureau and local outlets, the incident occurred when UAE air defense systems intercepted a hostile projectile over the port area. Debris from the interception landed within the port’s perimeter, igniting a localized blaze.
Emergency response and firefighting teams were immediately dispatched to the scene and successfully contained the fire. While cooling operations continued into the evening, authorities declared the situation under control.
Medical officials confirmed that four individuals sustained injuries in the incident. Among them:
– Three Pakistani nationals suffered injuries described as ranging from minor to moderate.
– One Nepalese national is reportedly in critical condition.
All four victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. No fatalities have been reported from this specific incident at the port.
Reacting to the development on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan is in “close contact” with UAE authorities to ensure the best possible medical care and support for the injured Pakistanis.

The Premier further emphasized that Pakistan stands in “complete solidarity with the brotherly people of the UAE” during this time. He also reiterated Islamabad’s stance on the volatile regional situation, calling for an “urgent need for restraint and de-escalation” to prevent further civilian suffering.
The incident comes amid a broader surge in regional hostilities, with the UAE Ministry of Defence reporting multiple successful interceptions of drones and missiles over the past 24 hours.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office is also expected to issue a formal briefing on the condition of the injured expatriates later today.
