ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar sustained a hairline fracture in his shoulder after stumbling while greeting Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry during a reception in Islamabad on Sunday, his son Ali Dar said.
According to Ali Dar, Ishaq Dar completed a full day of high-level meetings despite the injury, relying on painkillers to manage discomfort.
“Around 9 pm, after recording the official statement and marking the best conclusion to a major day for Pakistan, a medical examination was conducted at the insistence of the family. His X-rays are alhamdulillah overall fine. There is a hairline fracture in the shoulder,” Ali Dar said, adding that the deputy prime minister’s pain would be managed with medication and precautionary measures in the coming days.

The stumble occurred as Mr Dar was receiving his Egyptian counterpart at the state reception; video footage circulating on social media shows the deputy prime minister faltering briefly before regaining his balance. The incident drew immediate attention given the timing — Islamabad was hosting key talks on Middle East diplomacy.
Government officials said Mr Dar did not cancel scheduled engagements and proceeded with bilateral discussions and other obligations. Medical sources familiar with the family’s statement said that hairline fractures of this nature are typically treated conservatively with rest, analgesics and limited shoulder movement, with recovery expected over days to weeks depending on pain control and follow-up care.
The foreign minister’s visit, it may be added here, is part of Pakistan’s efforts to engage regional partners amid ongoing diplomatic talks.
