LAHORE: Punjab government has suspended the post-graduate training of four lady doctors at Lady Willingdon Hospital after a disturbing video surfaced showing them competing during simultaneous caesarean surgeries in the operation theater.
According to reports made available from multiple media outlets, two C-sections were underway when the doctors allegedly turned the procedures into a contest, remarking on who would finish first. Footage of the incident was recorded and later circulated, prompting outrage and concern over patient safety.
Taking strict notice, the Department of Specialized Healthcare sought explanations from Medical Superintendent Dr. Farah Inam and Head of Gynecology Prof. Dr. Uzma Hussain. The department has also directed Prof. Hussain to submit a detailed reply regarding the incident.
The postgraduate training of Dr. Tayyaba Fatima Toor, Dr. Mahim Amin, Dr. Zainab Tahir and Dr. Ayesha Afzal — all seen in the video — has been suspended pending inquiry.
Punjab Secretary Health Azmat Mahmood said disciplinary action would follow if the responses were found unsatisfactory. “No compromise will be made on patient safety and professional ethics,” he added.
