Pakistan allows export of rice, seafood, pharmaceuticals, other goods to Iran

Pakistan has granted permission to export a range of goods, including rice, seafood, and pharmaceutical products, to Iran.

In a noteworthy move aimed at boosting trade with Central Asian countries, Pakistan has temporarily exempted exporters from the requirement of bank guarantees and letters of credit for shipments via Iran.

According to a statement, the Ministry of Commerce approved a temporary exemption from financial instruments for exports to Iran and Central Asian states. Exports via land routes to Iran, Azerbaijan, and other Central Asian countries are now permitted.

Goods allowed for export to Iran include rice, seafood, potatoes, meat, onions, maize, fruits, pharmaceutical products, and tents.

The Ministry of Commerce said that the exemption is partial under State Bank regulations, with the condition that export proceeds must be repatriated within the stipulated period. Officials said the move is expected to strengthen trade links in the region.

Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal stated that the special exemption is valid for three months, from March 24 to June 21, 2026.
