Actor Hamza Ali Abbasi on Saturday moved to distance himself from an unfolding Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) inquiry into his elder sister, Dr Fazeela Abbasi, issuing a public disclaimer as reporters and social media linked him to the case.
This came after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) lodged two cases against his sister Dr Fazeela.
Information gathered by MM News revealed that one FIR alleges money‑laundering through hawala and hundi channels involving roughly Rs.25 billion routed through 22 bank accounts; the other accuses Dr Fazeela of operating an unregistered medical clinic. Officials say the volume of transactions is starkly at odds with her declared annual income of Rs.400,000–600,000, and that portions of the money were allegedly sent to accounts in Dubai and the United States.
Investigators have stepped up financial scrutiny, tracing transfers and seeking documentary trails, but no arrests or formal convictions have been recorded so far.
An Islamabad sessions court on March 26 cancelled Dr Fazeela’s interim bail after noting her failure to appear; meanwhile, the FIA successfully appealed a previous dismissal by the Islamabad High Court in the clinic case, bringing that matter back under judicial review.
In his statement, Hamza Ali Abbasi described Dr Fazeela as “a highly accomplished professional” and said he supports her personally while remaining professionally separate. He asked media outlets and members of the public not to conflate his views with questions for her, warned against linking him to the probe, and said he reserves the right to pursue legal action if needed.
