The federal government has reportedly decided to enforce a nationwide smart lockdown, with an official announcement expected soon, as part of efforts to conserve fuel and energy amid a global oil crisis.
According to reports, under the proposed plan, markets will close at 9:30pm and wedding halls at 10pm, with events restricted to one dish and a maximum of 200 guests.
Schools, colleges and universities will adopt a hybrid model, while public and private offices will implement up to 50% remote work on a rotational basis for an initial period of one month.
The draft also outlines strict measures on vehicle usage, reduced fuel allowances, limited air-conditioning use, and a gradual shift to solar energy in government offices.
Tax relief on telecom services and increased taxes on property and vehicle transactions are also being considered, along with discounted railway fares to encourage public transport use.
Meanwhile, Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah said the move is being considered to tackle fuel shortages driven by the global oil crisis, adding that fuel allowances for official vehicles have already been reduced by 60%.
