Pakistani superstar Mahira Khan underscored the lack of a proper royalty system in Pakistan’s entertainment industry, saying that while major stars can manage financially, junior artists, technicians, and crew members are often left struggling.
Speaking alongside Fahad Mustafa in a recent interview, she argued that a structured royalty system, used everywhere around the world, could provide basic financial security, especially for those behind the scenes.
She also pointed out that broadcasters earn from multiple revenue streams, yet this income is not fairly shared.
Khan shifted the focus of the debate toward less-visible workers who are most affected by the absence of royalties.
Despite the existence of industry bodies, meaningful progress on implementing such a system remains limited.
She also referenced past concerns raised by late actor Naila Jaffery, whose financial struggles brought attention to the issue, noting that little has changed since then.
