Residents of Karachi may face an increase in milk prices after Eidul Fitr, as the Dairy Farmers Association has announced a potential price hike.
According to the association, the production cost of one kilogram of milk is approximately Rs295, while the current retail price stands at Rs220 per kilogram.
Farmers said that milk prices were not increased even during 2025, but rising production costs have made it difficult to maintain the existing rate.
The farmers have formally written to the Commissioner Karachi Office, seeking official approval to increase prices.
They warned that if permission is not granted, the association may be compelled to implement new rates according to its capacity.
Meanwhile, government authorities have opposed the proposed increase. The Deputy Mayor of Karachi stated that strict legal action will be taken against anyone attempting to raise milk prices without approval.
