An emergency high-level meeting on security threats was held at the Sindh Assembly under the chairmanship of Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, where the prevailing security situation across the province was reviewed.
According to details, Mr Lanjar said that in light of past incidents and accidents, tough decisions would have to be taken. He stressed that security at the airport must be made foolproof due to heavy public traffic.
He announced that only one to two individuals would be permitted for pick-and-drop at the airport. “Karachi is Pakistan’s economic hub,” he said, adding that police must strengthen coordination with all law enforcement agencies. A comprehensive standard operating procedure (SOP) should be devised to ensure swift response at any incident site.
The minister said coordination with other provinces remained strong given the current circumstances. He directed that search app devices be made available in all prisons across Sindh. These devices, he added, must also be used during snap checking, picketing and combing operations. At all provincial entry and exit points, the presence of lady searchers should be made mandatory.
He further ordered an indiscriminate crackdown against the public display of weapons and called for full implementation of all provisions of the National Action Plan in both letter and spirit. The tenancy law, he said, must also be enforced in accordance with the Act.
Mr Lanjar also directed authorities to maintain strict vigilance at railway stations, bus terminals, truck depots and other cargo handling points across the province.
