The brutal killing of Dr. Mehwish Hasnain, a lady doctor serving at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Kohat, has sparked outrage across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with police confirming progress in the investigation.
District Police Officer (DPO) Kohat Shehbaz Elahi said that the main suspects have been identified. Following their identification, police conducted raids at various locations and tightened checking at entry and exit points of the city to apprehend the culprits.
Dr. Mehwish was shot dead two days ago while returning home in a rickshaw after completing her duty. The attack took place on Double Road in the Kohat Development Authority (KDA) area, near the hospital. Unidentified assailants opened indiscriminate fire, killing her on the spot before fleeing.
According to the Medical Superintendent (MS) of DHQ Hospital, Dr. Mehwish had reportedly argued with the husband of a female patient earlier. She had handed the man over to the police deployed at the hospital.
Following the murder, the Young Doctors Association (YDA) announced protests and observed a “Black Ribbon Day,” suspending emergency and routine services across hospitals in the province. Doctors have vowed to continue their protest until the accused are arrested and brought to justice.
