Nine lions have died within a matter of days at Lahore Safari Park, while two giraffes imported from abroad have also perished, according to wildlife authorities.
Additional Chief Wildlife Conservator Mudassar Hassan said the lions that died were suffering from illness. He added that the safari park also houses department-owned lions that had developed disabilities.
He said a committee is being formed to strengthen animal protection measures and to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future.
