South Africa is finally able to overcome Afghanistan’s resistance in the second Super Over, winning by four runs in a dramatic second T20 World Cup 2026 Group D clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday.
After both teams finished tied at 187 in their allotted 20 overs, the match went into a Super Over, and then a second, in a contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
South Africa, put in to bat, posted 187/6, powered by explosive half-centuries from Ryan Rickelton (61 off 28) and Quinton de Kock (59 off 41).
Afghanistan responded strongly, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz smashing 84 off 42 balls, but were bowled out for 187 in 19.5 overs. Lungi Ngidi claimed three wickets.
In the first Super Over, Afghanistan scored 17 runs, courtesy of two boundaries and a six from Azmatullah Omarzai. However, Tristan Stubbs struck a four and a six in the final three balls to level the scores.
In the second Super Over, David Miller and Stubbs hammered 23 runs. Chasing 24, Afghanistan managed 19, as Keshav Maharaj held his nerve, dismissing Mohammad Nabi and Gurbaz to secure South Africa’s second consecutive win.
