The Punjab government has announced fixed prices for essential food items in special Ramadan markets under the Ramazan Nigehban Package. The initiative aims to ensure affordable food access during the holy month, with subsidized flour, chicken, and eggs available across model, convenience, and Ramadan markets throughout the province.
Under the Ramazan Nigehban Package, prices for essential food items have been fixed in special Ramadan markets.
An important meeting regarding the package was held at the Department of Food Safety and Consumer Protection, chaired by Special Assistant for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, Salma Butt.
During Ramadan, a 10-kg bag of flour will be available for Rs 850 in model, convenience, and Ramadan markets, Salma Butt stated. She added that each flour mill would establish three sale points in its respective district where subsidized flour will be available. In special markets, the price of chicken will be reduced by Rs 15 per kg, and eggs by Rs 10 per dozen.
During Ramadan, 1,216 “Maryam’s Dastarkhwan” setups will be established across 152 tehsils in Punjab, providing meals to 250 people each day throughout the month.
Salma Butt also said that all model and convenience Ramadan markets in Punjab will become functional from February 15, before the start of Ramadan. Ramadan markets will operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
