Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi reached a police picket near Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Thursday afternoon and announced that he, along with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja and other party leaders and supporters, would camp at the spot overnight.
Afridi has been seeking a meeting with the incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan since assuming office in October last year but has so far been unsuccessful.
On Thursday, he once again arrived at Factory Naka, a police picket near Adiala Jail, in an attempt to meet Imran Khan. Thursday and Tuesday were court-mandated dates for such meetings.
However, Afridi, Imran Khan’s sisters, and his legal team have been barred from meeting him for several weeks.
These restrictions have led to repeated sit-ins and protests near the prison, with police previously using force on several occasions to disperse demonstrators.
Addressing the media at the site, Afridi said that most PTI parliamentarians had already arrived, while others were expected later.
Standing alongside Raja, he said the matter concerned their leader’s life and would not be allowed to become routine. He stated that they would remain at the location overnight and were awaiting a meeting between Imran Khan, his family, and his personal physician.
