The Punjab government has decided to declare a local holiday in Lahore on 6 February on the occasion of Basant. Approval for the holiday was granted following a proposal submitted by the district administration.
According to details, the purpose of declaring a holiday on 6 February is to enable citizens to take part in Basant-related activities.
Sources said the holiday has been announced in view of the Basant festival in Lahore, although the district administration had initially proposed 5 February as the holiday.
The provincial government approved the holiday for 6 February, while the Deputy Commissioner Lahore has advised that children under the age of 18 should celebrate Basant only in the presence of their families to help maintain safety and discipline during the traditional festivities.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the government and relevant departments would ensure that citizens are able to participate in Basant celebrations in a peaceful and secure environment.
Meanwhile, police have divided Lahore into red, blue and green zones for Basant. Authorities stated that sensitive and densely populated areas have been declared red zones and will face the strictest restrictions, while comparatively lower-risk areas will fall under blue zones, and safer areas will be designated as green zones.
